"The economic performance was within a proper range. We made steady and sound progress. Growth stayed constant, employment increased, prices remained stable, income went up and the structure of economy improved. Our economic development became more stable, more balanced and more sustainable. According to our preliminary calculations, for the first half of this year, the GDP reached 38.149 trillion yuan, up 6.9 percent year on year in comparable prices. For the first quarter, the GDP growth stood at 6.9 percent while the second quarter presented the same growth rate. The primary industry saw added value increase by 3.5 percent year on year, secondary industry by 6.4 percent, third industry by 7.7 percent. The GDP for the second quarter rose by 1.7 percent compared with that of first quarter."

China's GDP in the first half of 2017 rose 6.9 percent year on year to more than 38 trillion yuan (5.6 trillion U.S. dollars), according to data released on Monday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The data shows that it is well above the target for the year of 6.5 percent set by the National People's Congress in March.
China's economy is operating within a reasonable range, maintaining stable, coordinated and sustainable development, said NBS spokesman Xing Zhihong at a press conference, "laying a solid foundation for achieving the annual target."
"We made steady and sound progress. Growth stayed constant, employment increased, prices remained stable, income went up and the structure of economy improved. Our economic development became more stable, more balanced and more sustainable," said Xing.
According to preliminary calculations of the NBS, the GDP for the first half of 2017 is more than 38 trillion yuan.
"For the first half of this year, the GDP reached 38.149 trillion yuan, up 6.9 percent year on year in comparable prices. For the first quarter, the GDP growth stood at 6.9 percent while the second quarter presented the same growth rate. The primary industry saw added value increase by 3.5 percent year on year, secondary industry by 6.4 percent, third industry by 7.7 percent," said Xing.
Compared with that of the first quarter, the GDP for the second quarter rose by 1.7 percent, Xing added.
The GDP in the first half of 2016 was 34.0637 trillion yuan, up 6.7 percent year on year.
