China's consumer price index (CPI), considered a main gauge of inflation, rose 1.4 percent year on year in the first half this year, according to official data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Monday.
"In the first half of this year, the consumer prices went up by 1.4 percent year on year. The growth rate is on par with that of the first quarter," said Xing Zhihong, spokesman for the NBS.
The data also showed that the CPI rose 1.5 percent in urban areas and 1.0 percent in rural areas, compared with the same period of last year.
Prices of grain grew by 1.4 percent while pork and fresh vegetable saw their prices down respectively by 6.1 and 14.7 percent.
The CPI in June went up 1.5 percent year on year, the same extent of increase as the previous month, but dropped 0.2 percent month on month.
China's producer price index (PPI) which measures costs for goods at the factory gate also saw a year-on-year increase in the first half of 2017.
"In the first half of this year, the producer prices increased by 6.6 percent year on year. The growth rate is 0.8 percentage points lower than that in the first quarter," said Xing.
The PPI in June rose 5.5 percent year on year with an unchanged growth rate compared with the previous month but dropped 0.2 percent from May.
