Storyline


A brief thunderstorm caused flash floods, inundating roads and damaging vehicles in the Shanyin County, north China's Shanxi Province Friday afternoon.

The meteorological observatory in Shanxi issued the lowest level blue alert against brief thunderstorm with gale force winds and hails at 15:00 on Friday.

The thunderstorm started in many parts of the city of Shuozhou from 17:00, dumping 49.1 mm of rain in a matter of an hour from 19:00 to 20:00 in the worst-hit area.

Mobile video footages provided by local people show part of the roads were in water, making it difficult to travel, many electrical bikes were washed flat on ground and a number of private cars stalled on roads. Open-air fruit stalls also suffered losses.
