Typhoon Roke made landfall across coastal waters off the northeast part of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) at about 10:00 on Sunday, closing schools and suspending shipping services.
The typhoon came following local authorities' warning of an upcoming strong storm in the early morning.
The Hong Kong observatory issued an alert of No.8 Gale or Storm Signal for the storm at about 09:20.
The No.8 Gale or Storm Signal is a special term used by Hong Kong for warnings of tropical cyclone. It means winds with an average speed of 63 kilometers per hour or more.
According to the Hong Kong observatory, the tropical storm will continue to move westwards and the No.8 Gale or Storm Signal will hold for a while until the afternoon.
Residents are advised to stay at home and avoid outdoor activities.
