2. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Lu Kang, spokesman of Chinese Foreign Ministry (starting with shot 1):
"China has always maintained that military means must not be an option in resolving the issue of the Korean Peninsula. Force cannot solve the difference, and will only lead to bigger disasters. None of the parties involved can afford the result. We sincerely wish all the parties involved to refrain from words and deeds that may heighten tensions on the Korean Peninsula. As is known to all, China and Russia issued a joint statement on the Korean Peninsula issue the other day. Based on the 'dual-track approach' and the 'dual suspension' initiative proposed by China and the step-by-step conception by Russia, the statement sets forth a joint initiative of the two sides, aiming at solving the issue by addressing both the symptoms and root causes with a multi-pronged and comprehensive approach. It is objective, fair, reasonable and practical."

4. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Lu Kang, spokesman of Chinese Foreign Ministry:
"We hope all parties can give serious thoughts to the proposals above and support them, and create a practical path for the settlement of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue. We have also maintained that the U.S. and the DPRK, as parties directly concerned with the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, should make political decisions as soon as possible, and work together to de-escalate the tension on the peninsula and resolve the nuclear issue on the peninsula through dialogue and other political approaches."

Storyline

The use of force is not a way out for the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue and all parties involved should resort to a political approach, said China's Foreign Ministry on Monday.

The ministry spokesman Lu Kang made the remarks after Joseph Dunford, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, said on Sunday that the United States has been prepared for "limited missile attack" from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

"China has always maintained that military means must not be an option in resolving the issue of the Korean Peninsula. Force cannot solve the difference, and will only lead to bigger disasters. None of the parties involved can afford the result," Lu Kang said, adding, "we sincerely wish all the parties involved to refrain from words and deeds that may heighten tensions on the Korean Peninsula."

"As is known to all, China and Russia issued a joint statement on the Korean Peninsula issue the other day.
