And I've got friends that live out in Barcelona and funnily enough I was actually going to go to Barcelona on the weekend to watch the football. It's hard to see but at the same time, it can't really be a shock to anyone."

Storyline

Both local residents and European tourists in London said they felt saddened by the terrorist attacks in Spain, but they are no longer shocked by such incidents, nor are they willing to give in to fear.

On Thursday afternoon, a van mowed down pedestrians walking along Barcelona's famous Las Ramblas boulevard, killing at least 13 people and injuring more than 100 others.

Hours later, a vehicle ran over several people in the Catalan resort town of Cambrils, about 100 kilometers southwest of Barcelona, reportedly killing one person and injuring five others, including three police officers. Five suspects were taken down by Catalan police in a shootout.

The twin attacks were the most serious terrorist attacks in Spain since the Madrid train bombings in 2004. They were the latest in a string of European terrorist attacks following violence in London, Paris, Copenhagen and Brussels earlier this year. The deadly attacks have left many Europeans reeling.

In June, gruesome attacks at London Bridge and nearby Borough Market claimed the lives of seven civilians and injured 48 others. For the most part, life for Londoners has returned to normal and tourists once again flock to the city. Although people have not forgotten the violent attacks, they refuse to cower to terrorists.

"It's really sad to hear about that. And I don't know, I think we don't have to be scared about that. We have to keep traveling and keep discovering the world. And we don't have to stop," said Chiara, a tourist from Italy.

It's hard to see, but at the same time, it can't really be a shock to anyone," said Sam, a local resident.

When asked whether or not he was concerned about security in the UK or Europe, Joshua, a Londoner, replied "half and half".
