2. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Hua Chunying, spokeswoman, Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
"We have noticed the statement made by U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, especially the part that he stressed about the possibility of a dialog between the United States and the DPRK. Of late, we have also mentioned that there have appeared some signs of easing the ready-to-fight situation on the Korean Peninsula, thanks to the efforts made by all parties concerned. But the situation remains highly complicated and sensitive. We hold that all parties, especially the DPRK and the United States, which are directly concerned in the issue, need to keep restrained and make greater efforts. We have also noticed that leaders of many countries have for days voiced the necessity of peaceful settlement to the Peninsular nuclear issue. This shows that dialog but no confrontation, peace but no war, and easing of tensions but not mutual stimulation under the current situation is the common expectations and voices of the international community. We hope that all parties concerned would courageously undertake each other's responsibilities, reveal goodwill to each other, take the correct actions that are conducive to further easing the tense situation, focus efforts on pushing peaceful negotiations, actively contact each other and enter into dialog, and make real efforts to settle the Korean Peninsula issue peacefully as soon as possible through dialog."

China is glad to see parties concerned demonstrating some level of restraint and revealing goodwill on the Korean Peninsula issue and hopes that all parties would courageously undertake their respective responsibilities, express goodwill to each other and take further steps to ease the tensions on the Korean Peninsula, said a spokeswoman Hua Chunying of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs at a regular news briefing in Beijing on Wednesday.
Hua made the remark while commenting on Tuesday's speech by U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson that welcomed "some level of restraint" shown by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) with its nuclear program and saw a possible pathway to future talks between the US and the DPRK.
