The theme of this congress is to 'remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind, hold high the banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics, secure a decisive victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, strive for the great success of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, and work tirelessly to realize the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.'"

The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) convened Wednesday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Xi Jinping, on behalf of the 18th Central Committee of the CPC, delivered a work report to the opening session of the congress.
"The 19th CPC National Congress is a very important meeting as China is securing its decisive victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and at a critical moment when the socialism with Chinese characteristics enters its new era," said Xi.
"The theme of this congress is to 'remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind, hold high the banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics, secure a decisive victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, strive for the great success of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, and work tirelessly to realize the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation,'" Xi added.

The five-yearly gathering will elect a new generation of leadership and the main agenda of the congress includes hearing and examining the report submitted by the 18th CPC Central Committee; examining the report on the work of the 18th CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection; deliberating and adopting the amendment to the Constitution of the Communist Party of China; electing the Party's 19th Central Committee and 19th Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.
There are more than 2,300 delegates and specially invited delegates attending the seven-day congress.
