Xi Jinping said Wednesday China has made historic economic achievements over the past five years.

Xi made the remarks in a report to the 19th CPC National Congress held in the Great Hall of the People in downtown Beijing.

The five years since the 18th CPC National Congress have been extraordinary for the development of the Party and the country, Xi said.

"Amid sluggish global economic recovery, frequent regional conflicts and turbulences for an external backdrop with intensified global issues, and with a series of profound changes paced by the country's economy having entered its new normal for an internal circumstance, we have persisted in our key note of 'seeking progress through maintaining stability'; we have encountered difficulties but forged ahead to have made historic achievements in reform and opening-up and socialist modernization," Xi said.

He said China has made great progress in economy by firmly implementing the new concept of development, resolutely modifying development formulas, changing development modes and improving the quality and efficiency of development measures.

"The Chinese economy has maintained medium-to-high speed growth, ranking among the fastest-growing major countries of the world. China's GDP rose from 54 trillion yuan (8.16 trillion U.S. dollars) to 80 trillion yuan (12.08 trillion U.S. dollars) to rank second in the world and account for over 30 percent of the world's economic growth," said Xi.

Xi noted the country has also made notable scientific and technological achievements and progress in the past five years.

"The innovation-driven development strategy has been vigorously implemented. And major achievements have come one after another, like the Tiangong space lab, 'Jiaolong' deep-sea diving vehicle, FAST 'Tianyan' radio telescope, satellite 'Wukong' for dark matter particles, quantum satellite 'Mozi', and large-body aircraft," Xi continued.

The Party and the country have all witnessed the ongoing reforms getting comprehensive and deepened.

"We're now in high gears and full steam with deepening comprehensive reforms and resolutely removing all inappropriate systemic mechanisms. These reforms have been carried out in a more comprehensive and deeper way. The reforms must be systematic, holistic and collaborative. The width and depth of China's reforms have been considerably expanded," Xi said.
