Hong Kong residents in all walks of life have been paying close attention to the ongoing 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and felt inspired by the report Xi Jinping delivered at the opening of the congress on Wednesday.
Chan King-wai, chairman of Hong Kong China Chamber of Commerce and also a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), watched the live TV broadcast of the opening and said Xi's report really inspires him.
"Xi said people’s yearning [for a better life] is our goal of struggle, which really touched me. Xi’s report has a comprehensive planning for China’s future. I believe China’s economic and social development will take a leading place in the future. I also believe under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the country will be more powerful and prosperous, and we can realize the [Chinese] dream of great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation," said Chan.
Chan said the report also enhanced his confidence in the future of Hong Kong.

Wu, a member of the Election Committee which is responsible for choosing next Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, said he holds that the young in Hong Kong need to seize the opportunity to improve themselves and contribute their strength to the development of the country and Hong Kong.

Hong Kong media also paid close attention to the opening of the 19th CPC National Congress. Local television stations had a live telecast to the congress opening and local newspapers carried front-page headlines on the congress and opened special columns about it.
