2. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Yang Xiaodu, deputy secretary, Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI):
"The 18th CPC Central Committee started out with the erroneous trend the people hated the most to correct by implementing the provisions of the eight-point decision. The members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee have set an example at the top for lower ranking officials. The whole Party has made solid efforts, just like treading on stones with imprints left and clasping an iron with the marks imprinted, thus holding in check the erroneous tendencies that many people believed it impossible to stop."

"We have dispatched 47 inspection teams to central-level Party and government organizations, supervising 139 Party organizations of central-level units, realizing full coverage. We have strengthened the reform of the national supervisory system and improved the Party and government self-supervision system. We have completed the task of piloting the reform of such systems in Beijing, Shanxi and Zhejiang."

"With regard to corruption, there is no no-go zone, no ground to be left unturned and no tolerance at all. We will maintain the tough stance and a long-term deterrence in fighting corruption unswervingly, especially against cases that affect people's immediate interests. We will continue tracking down fugitives that fled overseas and recover their illicit assets. We will address both the symptoms and the root causes, strengthen deterrence so that officials dare not commit corruption, strengthen the cage of institutions, leaving no leeway for them to go corrupt, and strengthen their vigilance so as to suppress their desire to commit corruption. Only by so doing, is it possible to ensure a sweeping victory in the fight against corruption. We have enabled the overwhelming trend to take shape and we will win overwhelming victory."

Storyline

The Communist Party of China (CPC) has been very successful in strict self-governance or enforcing Party discipline in an all-round way over the past five years and will keep the momentum in the future, a Party official said on Thursday at a press briefing on the sidelines of the on-going 19th CPC National Congress.

The official, Yang Xiaodu, deputy secretary of the Party Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), said that since the 18th CPC National Congress, the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core has lifted Party building in conduct and honesty and the anti-corruption campaign up to a new level, effectuating a historic change in the outlook of the Party.

"The 18th CPC Central Committee started out with the erroneous trend the people hated the most to correct by implementing the provisions of the eight-point decision. The members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee have set an example at the top for lower ranking officials. The whole Party has made solid efforts, just like treading on stones with imprints left and clasping an iron with the marks imprinted, thus holding in check the erroneous tendencies that many people believed it impossible to stop," said Yang.

Forty-seven inspection teams have been dispatched to central-level Party and government organizations, supervising 139 Party organizations of central-level units, realizing full coverage, according to Yang. "We have strengthened the reform of the national supervisory system and improved the Party and government self-supervision system. We have completed the task of piloting the reform of such systems in Beijing, Shanxi and Zhejiang," said Yang.

The Party disciplinary authorities have investigated 440 officials at and above the provincial or corps level over the past five years. They include 43 members and alternate members of the CPC Central Committee and nine members of the CCDI.

He pledged that the CPC will resolutely intensify enforcing Party discipline in the future.

We have enabled the overwhelming trend to take shape and we will win overwhelming victory," said Yang.

The 19th CPC National Congress opened on Wednesday. More than 2,300 delegates and guest delegates are attending the congress.

The congress, China's most significant political event in every five years, was held at the decisive stage in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and at a critical moment when socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era.

The twice-in-a-decade CPC national congress will elect a new leadership and map out a blueprint for national development in the next five years and beyond.
