The consumption in the first three quarters of this year contributed to 64.5 percent of the country's economic growthent, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Thursday.

China's gross domestic product expanded 6.9 percent year on year in the first three quarters of 2017 to 59.3288 trillion yuan (about 8.9614 trillion U.S. dollars), data from the NBS showed Thursday.

The data show that in the first three quarters, the total retail sales of consumer goods increased by 10.4 percent year on year, with the contribution of the end consumption spending to the economic growth in the first three quarters reaching 64.5 percent, higher than that in the same period of last year.

"Our country has been continuously improving the consumption policy and environment, providing an effective impetus to tap the consumption potential and the consumption-drive economic growth model has been more consolidated. This is of major significance for the stability of economic development and the enhancement of economy's elasticity," said Xing Zhihong, spokesman of the National Statistical Bureau, told a press briefing.
