At least 39 were killed and 45 others wounded in a mosque attack in Kabul, capital of Afghanistan on Friday, the Interior Ministry said.
A suicide bomber detonated his suicide jacket at about 17:40 local time in a Shiite mosque named Imam-e-Zaman in Dasht-e-Barchi locality, Police District 13 of the capital city, the ministry said in a statement.
Earlier in the day, in the western province Ghor, 10 were killed and several others wounded in a Sunni mosque attack in Khoja Gan village, Dulina district, the statement said.
The statement noted that the number of casualties may rise as several injured people remained in critical condition.
The Islamic State (IS) terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
The IS has attacked several Shiite mosques in Kabul and western Herat province since the beginning of this year.
