China hopes to work with other parties to gain new development at the ongoing 23rd Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 23), said its Special Representative on Climate Change Xie Zhenhua on Monday.
Xie made the remarks prior to the COP high-level segment scheduled on Wednesday in Bonn, Germany.
According to Xie, China wants to play a constructive role in pushing ahead the United Nations climate talks by enhancing cooperation with other sides.
"We're going to strengthen cooperation and exchanges in all aspects in the second week of the conference, or the high-level segment, so as to defuse some differences and play an active and constructive role. We endeavor to make further progress at the COP this year," he said.
China wishes to step up its cooperation with the United States, as it will stay in the talks although U.S. President Donald Trump pulled his country out of the Paris Agreement.
"The U.S. delegation has sent some high-level representatives to the negotiations. Their participation, in general, is of help to [promote] greater inclusiveness of the multilateral process. The COP 23 opened in Bonn on Nov. 6 and will close on Friday, at which a guideline for the implementation of the Paris Agreement will be defined.
