Storyline

Iraq declared its loss in the battle against the Islamic State (IS) amounted to 100 billion U. S. dollars over the past three years, and called for international aids to help reconstruction after war.

As war against the extremists drawing to an end, the Iraqi government said many civilians and military had lost their lives to fight against the terrorists. Cities once under the control of the IS were depleted.

"There will be a conference in Kuwait to gather countries that will support Iraq’s reconstruction. We hope that will contribute to the reconstruction. We also hope that most countries in the world could participate in the conference," said Rahim al-Shammari, a member of the House of Representatives for Nineveh province.

Some countries have recently launched financial aids to Iraq, and Iraq hopes the coalition of fighting the IS will transform to one mechanism that helps social and economic reconstruction of Iraq post war.

"There must be cooperation from all over the world to help the Iraqis to make up for the losses, because Iraq today is fighting for the whole world. I hope countries once fought the IS could play a role in Iraq's reconstruction and in compensation for the Iraqis," said Salah al-Jubouri, head of the Alliance of Iraqi National Forces.

According to reports and experts, Iraq needs about 150 billion U. S. dollars for the reconstruction of areas liberated from the IS and the rest of the Iraqi cities that need strategic projects and basic services.

It is unlikely that Iraq will get sufficient aids to enable its reconstruction. The government might be open its door of foreign investments.
