Tibet is checking houses for safety in the Maiba Village, a dense populated area close to downtown Nyingchi, after the 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck on Saturday.
The result shows that cracks have been found in three houses and slight damage was found in four others.
After the earthquake, a local family found large fissures on the wall of its house, one wide enough to put a hand in. The house is of typical Tibetan style built 15 years ago. It is a mixed structure of stone and wood. To fortify the wall, the family has put up a wood column to support it.
Local authorities have conducted house-to-house checks and put up tents for villagers as temporary shelters. They also carried out psychological counseling to drive away fears of local residents.
