"Jerusalem's status is one of the key issues in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It involves different nationalities and religious sentiments, and thus is complicated and sensitive. To solve the issue of Jerusalem's final status through dialogue has always been the universal consensus of the international community. China steadfastly supports the Middle East peace process, and supports the approach of handling relevant issues in this region, including Jerusalem's status, according to relevant resolutions of the United Nations. We support the independent state of Palestine that owns complete sovereignty and takes east Jerusalem as its capital based on the 1967 Israel-Palestine border. China urges all parties to keep an objective and impartial position and make efforts to restart the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, and safeguard the peace and stability of the region."

China urged all parties to be impartial on Jerusalem's status issue and make efforts to promote the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, the Foreign Ministry said on Thursday in Beijing.

Spokesman Geng Shuang made the remarks during a regular briefing when asked to respond to U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to move the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.

Geng said to solve the issue of Jerusalem's final status through dialogue has been the universal consensus of the international community.

He said that China supports the Middle East peace process and relevant resolutions by the United Nations, adding that all parties should be impartial.

"We support the independent state of Palestine that owns complete sovereignty and takes east Jerusalem as its capital based on the 1967 Israel-Palestine border. China urges all parties to keep an objective and impartial position and make efforts to restart the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, and safeguard the peace and stability of the region," he said.

Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital and his instruction of moving the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem have drawn strong condemnation from Arab states and the Islamic world.

Angry protests against Trump's decision had already flared up in the Gaza Strip.
