China's national flag was lowered at half-mast on Wednesday morning to remember the victims of the Nanjing Massacre in the capital of east China's Jiangsu Province.
The flag raising and lowering to half-mast ceremony was held at the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall to mark the 80th anniversary of the incident that saw more than 300,000 Chinese killed, and 20,000 women raped by Japanese troops who occupied Nanjing on Dec. 13, 1937.
Leaders of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the central government will attend a ceremony at a square in front of the Memorial Hall for the Victims.
The event will be broadcast live by various media outlets.
In February 2014, China's top legislature designated December 13 as a national memorial day for the victims of the Nanjing Massacre.
