China calls for Japan's collaboration in developing China-Japan relations by facing up to history while working towards tomorrow, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang on Thursday.

China held a national memorial ceremony Wednesday in Nanjing City, the provincial capital of east China's Jiangsu Province to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre.

Answering a media question on China-Japan relations at a routine news briefing in Beijing, Lu quoted Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, who said at the ceremony that only with a correct attitude toward one's history, can one work towards a better future.

"This year marks the 45th anniversary of the normalization of the Sino-Japanese diplomatic ties, and next year we'll embrace the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between China and Japan.
