Chinese President Xi Jinping urged the army to intensify training and get prepared against war.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), made the remarks Wednesday when inspecting the 71st Group Army of the People's Liberation Army.
Xi told officers and men of the group army to implement the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress and apply the principles to military training.
He urged the army to strengthen the building of Party organizations at all levels and ensure the servicemen and servicewomen to follow the command of the CPC Central Committee and the CMC.
Xi stressed the importance of political discipline and rules and the efforts to fight corruption and improve the style of work.
He instructed the army to enhance the abilities of winning wars, implement the army restructuring plans and improve the army management and combat mobility.
He said the army should make innovations in the military training theories and methods, conduct more real combat drills and boost the morale of the servicemen. He asked commanding officers to take up responsibilities and demonstrate their leadership.
During the inspection tour, Xi visited a company where the hero soldier, Wang Jie, served in the 1960s. He died trying to save 12 others.
He visited the company's room of honor, where Wang's photos and diaries are displayed. He then talked with the soldiers of the squad named after Wang.
"'One must fear neither hardship nor death' -- I remember this during the campaign of learning from Wang Jie. The spirit of Wang Jie is eternal," Xi said.
At the end of his visit, Xi took a photo with all the officers and men of the company.
Xi also visited the headquarters of the group army, where he met with senior officers and delivered a speech.
