Moon Jae-in, president of the Republic of Korea (ROK), visited the historic site of the ROK provisional government in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality on Saturday.
After spending two days in Beijing, the South Korean president chose Chongqing as his second station of his four-day visit to China.
During the Second World War, Chongqing, as China's war capital, housed the headquarter of the ROK provisional government in exile, which persevered in the independence movement against Japanese colonial rule.
At the site, Moon presented flowers to the statue of Kim Koo, leader of the provisional government and independence movement. He also met with descendants of Korean activists of the movement.
Before leaving the site, Moon wrote an inscription for the site, saying that "the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea is our root and the source of our spirit."
