The government of China's Macao Special Administrative Region on Sunday afternoon held an international parade to mark the 18th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland.
With the theme "Feature of Local Districts and Historic Monuments", the parade attracted more than 60 participating groups from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong as well as foreign countries including Brazil, Mexico, Italy, Portugal, Austria, France, Cape Verde, among others.
This year the parade has included the word "international" hoping to have a more international Macao, as well as a new route to fully show the charm of the city, according to the organizer.
"We specially changed the name for this year, wishing that the future development will be more international, and more art groups from all over the world will join this great event," said Kuok Mio U with the Macao's Cultural Affairs Bureau.
The parade route aims to show the changing paths from historical buildings to the downtown, Kuok Mio U added.
The parade started from the renowned Ruins of St. Paul's. Over 1,300 performers joined the parade, while interacting with spectators during their performances, which won continuous cheers and applaud.
"It's my first time visiting here and I've come across such a wonderful performance," said a spectator.
The parade featured a series of performances such as folk dances, acrobatics, stilt walking, Chinese martial arts and puppet shows. Despite being the coldest day this winter, participants gave their best performance during the whole event.
"We are so excited! We are having so much fun here. Actually here is cold, but their mood is very good," said one performer from Lithuania.
At the end of the parade, all participating teams gathered at the Sai Van Lake Square and held a celebration party, which pushed the event to climax with gorgeous light effect and passionate dances.
The parade, one of the major cultural events in Macao since 2011, was organized by Macao's Cultural Affairs Bureau and the Macao government Tourism Office.
