China's imports and exports of goods grew year-on-year 14.2 percent in 2017 to 27.79 trillion yuan, according to official data released by the General Administration of Customs on Friday.
The export trade volume hit 15.33 trillion yuan, a growth of 10.8 percent year on year, and the import trade, 18.7 percent to 12.46 trillion yuan, leaving a surplus of 2.87 trillion, 14.2 percent less than in the same period of the previous year.
Huang Songping, spokesman of the General Administration of Customs, told reporters that the foreign trade is expected to sustain a healthy growth in 2018.
"China's imports and exports are estimated to continue to increase, with better quality and efficiency," Huang said at a press conference.
Local officials attributed the good performance of foreign trade to the nationwide campaign of promoting the single-window customs clearance last year.
Xue Liang, director of the Customs Clearance Section of the Zhongshan Customs Office, said that the one-stop customs clearance procedure, which was put in place in November last year, can save one-third of the time needed for clearance as it took 10.16 hours to go through the import clearance and 0.35 hours to go through the export clearance in the first ten months last year.
"The average clearance time for imports and exports was 5.13 hours and 0.25 hours respectively in November, 69.37 percent and 47.92 percent shorter than before," Xue said.
The new clearance policy benefited small enterprises as it helped them cut cost.
The Konica Minolta (China), a joint venture located in northeast China's Dalian City, said it imported 63 multifunctional copiers days ago. Thanks to the one-stop customs clearance, the clearance time was cut by 70 percent, saving the company more than two million yuan.
"[The new policy] does not only ensure the equipment be put into tests in good time for research and development, but also eased the strain in capital turnover," said Wang Juan, a staff member of the company.
