Storyline

A Chinese member of IOC (International Olympic Committee) is excited to see the participation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) at the upcoming PyeongChang Winter Olympics, as the IOC approved at a meeting Saturday, that delegations from the DPRK and South Korea will march together under the name "Korea" at the Opening Ceremony.

Yang yang, the IOC member who won two gold medals in short track speed skating for China, believes the four-party meeting held in Lausanne, Switzerland is an exciting prospect.

"I'm very excited, as many members, we talked about this. We're so proud 0lympic can make that happen. And you know people, the first step they have to get together, have chance. And then they can talk to each other, and then they can understand each other, hopefully one day they can accept each other. So we are very proud Olympics can bring people together, and that's something we are passionate about," said Yang.

Yang also thinks the DPRK's participation will set a good example as it represents the power of the Olympic spirit.

"So, South Korea and DPRK will be great example for the world in the future, if everything goes smoothly, and I'm so excited to see the Pyeongchang Games, the joint team of South Korea and DPRK walking to the stadium, and the people will get so excited," added Yang.

During the four-party meeting, the IOC also decided that a unified women's ice hockey team will be created by adding 12 players and one official from the DPRK to the existing South Korean Olympic squad of 23 players.

In his speech after Saturday's meeting, IOC President Bach credited the day as a "milestone on a long journey", as the IOC has been addressing the special situation of having the Olympic Winter Games 2018 on the Korean peninsula.
