A high-speed train caught on fire in east China's Anhui Province on Thursday, but no casualties were reported after firefighters acted quickly to extinguish the blaze.
The incident occurred in Dingyuan County of Chuzhou City. Local firefighters said they received reports of the fire shortly after noon and dispatched three fire engines and 17 firefighters to tackle the blaze.
Firefighters arrived at the site within 30 minutes and found the second carriage of high-speed train G281 ablaze, though no passengers were by then on-board the train, which was bound for the city of Hangzhou in east China's Zhejiang Province.
Firefighters were able to put out the fire some 20 minutes later and train services passing through the affected station had resumed by 14:45.
The fire delayed several hundred passengers and local authorities organized for personnel to deliver food and water supplies to the stranded travelers. Alternative transport arrangements were also made to allow affected passengers to reach their destinations.
The Shanghai Bureau of the China Railway Corporation later posted a message on its official Weibo account, a popular Chinese microblogging service, attributing an electrical equipment breakdown as the likely cause of the fire. The incident remains under further investigation.
