Storyline

As the Chinese Year of the Dog approaches, Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), sent a new year blessing and expressed her love for the traditional Chinese clothes and food in an exclusive interview with China Central Television in Washington D.C.

As a fashionable woman, Lagarde loves Chinese cheongsam very much. She explained the reason why she loves to wear it in some formal occasions.

"First of all, I like the materials. The use of quality material is amazing. Second, for woman, I think some of the dresses in particular, evening dresses notably, are extremely elegant, simple and yet precious, and they are very flattering," she said.

When talking about her favorite Chinese food, Lagarde mentioned Beijing roast duck and moon cakes.

"I don't go to China without having my Peking duck at some stage, and there is one particular delicacy which I like, which is the moon cake. I love moon cakes. But you can't find them in many other countries, so when I have friends visiting China at the time of the moon cake season, I say 'Please bring me a box'," she said.

As there are quite a few Chinese staff members working there, the IMF holds parties every year to welcome the Chinese lunar new year.

"First of all, the executive director who represents China always has a party at the time of the Chinese new year, and we have a very large and vibrant Chinese community. There are many members of staff at the IMF who are Chinese national, and they organize a big celebration, which takes place either on the 15th or around Feb 15 to celebrate the new year, the Year of the Dog. Whenever I am in Washington, I have attended the Chinese new year party. I think this year I will not be in Washington, so I will think of them, and I will think of China," Lagarde said.

At the end of the interview, Lagarde sent her new year blessing to the Chinese people.

"Xin Nian Hao, and I wish all the Chinese people wherever they are, in China and elsewhere, a very happy, prosperous, stable new year in the Year of the Dog. And I hope that in their personal life and in their professional life as a country, they really have a good year from all perspective," she said.
