Storyline

As the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics is in full swing, a Chinese folk artist used her exquisite craftsmanship to pay tribute to the athletes and the Olympic spirit.

Tang Qiuyun, a woman from northeast China's Liaoning Province who later moved to Beijing after getting married, was inspired by the ongoing Olympics and created two feather paintings named "alpine skiing" and "Welcome 2022 Winter Olympics by timely snow".

The picture "alpine skiing" portrays the vivid scene of athletes skiing on snow-covered mountain and "Welcome 2022 Winter Olympics by timely snow" demonstrates the abundant snow resources in Yanqing, where some events of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games will be held.

Adopting the techniques inherited from her family together with her own innovation, Tang created her own way of making feather paintings. By pasting feathers on a flat surface, making feathers in the shape of an embossment and three-dimensional modeling, Tang created many pieces of feather paintings.

"There is a beach on the seaside in Yingkou City [my hometown]. It is covered by a kind of red grass, seeming 'red beach'. I knew it would be a beautiful painting if I created a feather painting with the theme of 'red beach'," said Tang.
