Heavy fog caused dozens of expressways to be closed in east China’s Jiangxi Province on Friday, leaving vehicles waiting at toll gates in long queues.
As visibility was reduced to less than 50 meters, traffic authorities shut down 26 expressways across the province and carried out temporary traffic control in many other parts.
The fog has started to disperse and as of Friday noon, some of the expressways were reopen to motorists.
At the end of the Spring Festival holiday, many motorists were stuck on the road due to heavy traffic flow and expressway closure.
"I'm from Zhejiang. Since last midnight, I have been waiting for more than eight hours," said a driver.
