The Syrian government forces on Sunday regained control over a major town and a number of villages in Eastern Ghouta after eradicating terrorists from the area.
According to the official news agency, units of the Syrian army had liberated al-Nashabieh and surrounding villages from terrorist group Jabhat al-Nusra and the affiliated factions.
So far, the Syrian army has reportedly retaken 25 percent of the opposition-held Eastern Ghouta, located on the outskirts of Damascus.
The Syrian government forces launched the military operation on Saturday night, inflicting heavy losses upon terrorists in personnel and equipment, the news agency said.
Pro-government media reported the Syrian army also established control over the supply route linking the eastern and western parts of Eastern Ghouta.
While in the hands of Jabhat al-Nusra, al-Nashabieh and the surrounding farms suffered massive destruction caused by the terrorist attacks to the citizens' houses and infrastructures.
Jabhat al-Nusra, who had clashed with the Syrian military near al-Nashabieh since Feb 25, was excluded from a daily five-hour ceasefire, which was ordered by Russia on Feb 27.
