"We are not bound by the five hours, we said that it's an impossible duration for any humanitarian convoy. We organized and negotiated 12 to 16 hours this convoy. To offload, it would take many hours. So we may be out from Douma well after nightfall."

UN aid convoys started entering rebel-held areas in the Eastern Ghouta countryside of Damascus on Monday, the first aid shipment to enter that area since a Russian-backed humanitarian pause went into force seven days ago.
Up to 46 truckloads of aid entered the Douma district in Eastern Ghouta through the Wafidin crossing northeast of Damascus. The aid supply will then be distributed to around 27,500 people in the area. The long-awaited shipment entered a day after the UN announced it was sending the shipment on Monday.
The Syrian government currently has a five-hour ceasefire in Eastern Ghouta every day from 09:00 to 14:00 and calls on residents to evacuate from war zone via humanitarian passage. The aid convoy is not restricted to the limited ceasefire period however, according to an official from the United Nations.
"We are not bound by the five hours, we said that it's an impossible duration for any humanitarian convoy. We organized and negotiated 12 to 16 hours this convoy. To offload, it would take many hours. So we may be out from Douma well after nightfall," said UN resident coordinator in Syria, Ali al-Zaatari.
Earlier in the day, the Russian Reconciliation Center in Syria, said the rebels in Eastern Ghouta pledged to allow civilians to leave that area in exchange for the entry of aid.
An estimated 400,000 people reside in Eastern Ghouta. Al-Zaatari revealed that there will be more humanitarian supplies going into the area in the coming days.
"We're planning for another one on Thursday, the 8th, and we hope that we'll be able to get additional convoys into Eastern Ghouta," said al-Zaatari.
