Storyline

China, under the guidance of new national leaders, will develop better and bring more opportunities to the world, according to several overseas businessmen and politicians.

Elections for a new generation of national leaders were held during the first session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), China's highest organ of state power, during which Xi Jinping was elected Chinese president by a unanimous vote.

Overseas business and political figures spoke highly of the newly-elected leaders and were full of confidence for China's future development and contributions to the world, during recent interviews with China Central Television.

First Deputy Minister of Cuban Foreign Trade and Investment Antonio Carricarte said Cuba and the whole Caribbean will benefit from President Xi's approach to international relations.

"I express my warm congratulation on President Xi's success. President Xi's ways of dealing with international relations are based on comprehensiveness, respect and reciprocity, and they are favorable to Cuba, as well as the whole world -- especially the Belt and Road Initiative. We have a lot to do, and I believe the work will benefit our country and the Caribbean," said Carricarte.

Chairman emeritus of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Francis Chua, also praised President Xi, as well as the people of China.

"First allow me to congratulate all the peoples, from the People's Republic of China, and of course President Xi Jinping for being elected unanimously as the president of China. President Xi wanted to share it with the rest of the world. This is a leader that we expect, that we look forward," said Chua.

Edilson Baldez das Neves, president of the Federation of Industries of the State of Maranhao, also spoke highly of China's achievements and expressed his hope that Brazil and China can continue to grow their relationship.

"We've noticed the tightness of the relationship between China and Brazil. We hope that in this new moment that China is living, with these appointments of new leaders of state organs, we could tighten up our relationship even more. Commercial or industrial interests could be good for both China and Brazil. China’s growth is what our Maranhao is searching for and is following," said Neves.
