President Xi Jinping called for more efforts in achieving the goal of building China into a great modern socialist country.
Xi made the remarks at the closing meeting of the first session of the 13th National People's Congress on Tuesday.
"Our goal is to build our country into a great modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious, and beautiful by the middle of this century," he said.
Xi called for more energy and more concrete measures to comprehensively deepen reform, expand opening up, apply a new vision of development, and promote high-quality development of the economy.
"We will make sure that the people will enjoy broader, fuller and more genuine democratic rights and the advantages of socialist democracy will be brought into fuller play," said Xi, adding that the Chinese government will devote more energy and take more concrete measures to accelerate the building of a strong nation with socialist culture, and cultivate and observe core socialist values.
More efforts will be made to improve the well-being of the people and promote poverty reduction and social justice, according to Xi.
"We will devote more energy and take more concrete measures in ensuring and improving people's living standards, strengthening and developing new approaches to social governance, resolutely winning the battle against poverty, promoting social fairness and justice," said Xi.
Xi called for more efforts to advance the building of an ecological civilization.
"We will devote more energy and take more concrete measures to expedite ecological progress, accelerate efforts to develop green production and ways of life, and work harder to tackle prominent environmental problems so as to make the skies bluer, the mountains greener, the waters clearer and the environment more beautiful in our country. The president also urged the building of a world-class military with Chinese characteristics to fulfill the missions given by the Party and the people in the new era.
