The first session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) concluded in Beijing Tuesday morning.
The closing meeting was presided over by Li Zhanshu, chairman of the 13th NPC Standing Committee.
The meeting adopted the Supervision Law and Resolutions on the Government Work Report, the work reports of the 12th NPC Standing Committee, the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate.
The meeting also passed the resolutions on the reports of the national economic and social development plan and the central and local government budgets.
President Xi Jinping signed a presidential decree to promulgate the Supervision Law.
Xi Jinping addressed the closing meeting.
In his speech, Xi expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the NPC deputies and the Chinese people of all ethnic groups for the trust they have placed on him.
"It is a glorious mission and weighty responsibility to take on this great position of the President of the People's Republic of China. I will, as always, faithfully fulfill my responsibilities empowered by the Constitution, be loyal to the motherland and the people, perform my duty scrupulously, do all my best, be diligent at work, and stay devoted and dedicated," he said.
"I will continue to serve as a servant of the people, accept supervision by the people, and will absolutely not betray the great trust from all deputies and Chinese people of all ethnic groups," he added.
All the working personnel of state organs, no matter how high a position one holds, must keep firmly in mind that our republic is the People's Republic of China. Li Zhanshu also spoke at the meeting.
He said that Xi Jinping being elected Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the People's Republic of China (PRC) by unanimous vote is the collective will of the nearly 3,000 NPC deputies and the common aspiration of the more than 1.3 billion Chinese people of all ethnic groups.
Xi Jinping is the core of the Party, commander of the army and leader of the people, who enjoys the support from the whole Party and love and esteem from the people, said Li.
With the strong leadership by the CPC Central Committee with Xi at the core and the guidance by Xi Jinping Thought on the New Era of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, the Chinese people are confident and capable of achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, said Li.
Li said the deputies should perform their glorious missions entrusted by the Party and people, play a better role to make the NPC and its Standing Committee a working organ that is capable of taking up all the responsibilities endowed by the Constitution and as a representative organ that maintains close contact with the people.
Present at the closing meeting were other Chinese leaders, including Li Keqiang, Wang Yang, Wang Huning, Zhao Leji, Han Zheng and Wang Qishan.
Also present were Zhang Dejiang, Yu Zhengsheng and Zhang Gaoli.
Xi Jinping and other leaders of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and state met with all the NPC deputies and had a group photo taken with them.
