Storyline

Russian ambassador to the United Kingdom (UK) on Thursday said that the UK has blamed Russia with no evidence in the former Russian spy poisoning incident.

Alexander Yakovenko made the comments at a press conference held in the London-based Russian embassy during which he briefed the press about the process of Russia learning of the former spy and his daughter's poisoning incident and the diplomatic row it sparked thereof.

Yakovenko called on the UK authorities to launch a thorough and transparent investigation towards the incident which happened in the British city Salisbury on March 4 and left Sergei Viktorovich Skripal and Yulia in critical condition.

The father and daughter were found unconscious on a bench after visiting a local restaurant called Zizzi.

Some residue of the Novichok nerve agent poison was found on the bench where they had been seated, which Police have now covered in a tent.

Sergeant Nick Bailey who responded to the incident was left seriously ill after being exposed to the nerve agent.

However, according to local reports, the sergeant was discharged from hospital on Thursday night.

The ambassador claimed that the Russian government has zero connection to the poisoning incident and said that the British government has refused to cooperate with Russia on the investigation of the incident from the beginning, which is considered to be a violation of related international principles.

"Unfortunately, 18 days have passed since the day of the incident, and we have not received any official information from the foreign and common wealth office or police on the investigation thereof. The British authorities refused to provide samples of the chemical substance," said Yakovenko.

Yakovenko also said that the British government has refused to reveal details when the Russian embassy asked for the physical condition of Sergei Viktorovich Skripal and his daughter.

"At which hospital are Mr. and Ms. Skripal being treated? We don't have any information. What is their exact diagnosis, condition and what treatment are they receiving? No information. Is the treatment the same as one provided to Sergent Nick Bailey? No information. Why has the condition of Mr. Bailey improved while Mr. and Ms. Skripal remain in a critical condition? No question," said Yakovenko.

Before leaving for a two-day EU summit held in Brussels, Belgium on Thursday, British Prime Minister Theresa May said that she would communicate with EU leaders and called them to unite in blaming Russia for the spy poisoning.
