"One is peace. His basic message is that the history of China, Confucianism history of China is peaceful. The second is equality, throughout the book. It's based on the idea that human beings are equal. And the third idea is his idea of internationalism. Xi Jinping is really the last leader who still believes we should have an international peaceful order. So it is a good read and it is an encouraging read."

Storyline

British scholars spoke highly of "Xi Jinping: Governance of China (Volume Two)", as the book was released at the 2018 London Book Fair.

Simon Learmount, a Lecturer in Corporate Governance at Cambridge Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, has been to China for more than 50 times in past three decades. He said the book is a "must read for anyone who is interested in the development of China."

"It's almost exactly to the day 170 years since the Communist manifesto was published in London. Frankly speaking, I think a lot of the ideas and thoughts in this book are as important and as relevant to modern day China and actually modern day global society as the work of Marx and Engels was back in the mid-19th century," said Learmount.

The book was released in nine languages, containing speeches, messages, and photographs by President Xi from 2014 to 2017.

The book offers readers around the world valuable insights into the thoughts of the Chinese leader, China's development and ideologies underpinning the country's international engagement.

So it is a good read and it is an encouraging read," said Alan Macfarlane, an anthropologist, historian and Professor Emeritus of King's College, Cambridge University.

Speaking at a small seminar at the book fair, Martin Albrow, Professor of Academy of Social Sciences, said the book is "a lesson of leadership."

"What President Xi is doing is carrying forward a message that the United Nations was promoting in the 1980s and 90s: How can we preserve the world? President Xi's shared human future is a direct continuation of that and he is speaking therefore, to the world as a whole. This is much bigger than globalization," said Albrow.

The London Book Fair is the flagship event of the publishing industry. Many publishers here expected the book will reach a high sales volume.
