"We have repeatedly expressed China's clear, definite and firm stand on China-U.S. trade friction caused by the U.S. Section 301 investigation. We hold that the moves of the Unite States are typical unilateralism and are virtual actions of economic hegemony. China and the United States are both big world powers whose economies are highly integrated. We should treat each other on the basis of mutual respect, equality and win-win cooperation."

"We all noticed that many parties in the international community had called on the U.S. side to respect the WTO and abide by multilateral rules. Storyline

China will resolutely fight back if the United States continues unilateral actions, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said in Beijing on Tuesday.

The U.S. administration recently proposed tariffs on dozens of billions of dollars of Chinese goods based on the so-called Section 301 investigation to probe alleged Chinese intellectual property and technology transfer practices.

It also announced on Monday the activation of denial of export privileges against leading Chinese telecom equipment maker ZTE Corp, the latest move to heighten tensions.

"We have repeatedly expressed China's clear, definite and firm stand on China-U.S. trade friction caused by the U.S. Section 301 investigation. We hold that the moves of the Unite States are typical unilateralism and are virtual actions of economic hegemony," Hua told reporters.

She said that as big powers in the world, China and the United States should treat each other on the basis of mutual respect, equality and win-win cooperation.

Hua said the United States should stop actions that violate multilateralism under the regime of the World Trade Organization.

"We all noticed that many parties in the international community had called on the U.S. side to respect the WTO and abide by multilateral rules. Besides, increasingly more people in the U.S. including 107 trade associations have petitioned against the U.S. actions that harm both itself and other countries," she said.

Hua said China will resolutely fight back to safeguard the world multilateral system if the U.S. obstinately sticks to the wrong course.

"If the U.S. continues to go against the world trend and take arbitrary actions, we naturally will take countermeasures. We will fight back resolutely and win the battle to defend multilateralism and free trade. It is not only for the legitimate rights and interests of the Chinese side, but also for the world multilateral trade system and rules," she said.
