Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will talk about long-term and strategic issues concerning the development of the bilateral relations in an upcoming meeting, said Lu Kang, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, at a routine press conference on Tuesday.

Lu made the remarks in response to a question about the meeting between Xi and Modi on April 27 and 28 in central China's Wuhan City. He pointed out that the two countries share a lot of common interests and concerns.

"Both China and India are ancient civilizations, important neighbors to each other and each with a population of more than a billion. Facing unsteady and uncertain international situations, the two countries, as the two biggest developing countries and most important emerging markets, share a lot of common interests and concerns. You may have also seen that [China and India] share a lot of common opinions in the international community. The two countries are not only the staunch forces of promoting a multi-lateral world and globalized economy, but also important powers of maintaining peace, stability and development of the world," Lu said.

Lu said that foreign ministers of both China and India had said at the press briefing on Sunday that the China-India relations are of remarkably strategic and global significance. The two nations have more common interests than differences. Lasting friendship, win-win cooperation and common development are a must for the two countries to choose.

"We expect that in the meeting, President Xi and Prime Minister Modi will have a strategic exchange of views on the great changes in the world today, which hadn't occurred during the past century. They will have an in-depth talk on the comprehensive, long-term and strategic issues about the future development of sino-Indian relationship, grasp the overall direction of the ties, set up new goals and make new progresses. We believe this meeting will push forward the development of our bilateral ties. It will not only deliver greater benefits to the people of China and India, but also create positive and important impacts to the peace and development of the region and the world," Lu added.

The spokesman also believed this meeting will push forward the development of the bilateral ties, not only bringing greater benefits to the people of China and India, but also creating positive and important influence on the peace and development of the region and the world.
