The 2018 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition (Auto China 2018) kicked off on Wednesday, with more than 1,000 models and dozens of concept car presented to auto enthusiasts.
A total of 105 car models are also being displayed for the first time at the show.
More than 1,200 exhibitors from 14 countries and regions, including industry behemoths like Volkswagen, Daimler, Toyota, Nissan, Ford and others, are participating in the event, which runs until May 4 this year.
Nearly one million visitors are expected to wander the halls of the China International Exhibition Center and New China International Exhibition Center this year, with electric cars expected to attract much of the spotlight.
BMW will be showcasing 14 new car models for the first time with a focus on high-end new energy vehicles and large luxury cars.
"China is a great market for us, and China will be the leading market for electro-mobility, that's why we believe the new iX3 will be a perfect product for the Chinese market, to localize it here, in the biggest electric mobility market in the world," Harald Krueger, CEO and chairman of BMW, told reporters at the exhibition.
Meanwhile, Lexus, the luxury division of Japanese car maker Toyota, is targeting young customers in the Chinese market with its new ES model.
"The consumer group for vehicles, especially luxury cars, is young and diverse in China. So we attached great importance to the needs of our young customers in the development of the new models," said Hitoshi Ohtake, the executive vice general manager of Lexus China.
The Beijing International Automotive Exhibition or Auto China has been held biennially since 1990 and is one of leading motor shows in China.
