"The easing of the Peninsula tension is hard-won and needs to be cherished by all parties. The easing of the tension is not only in the interests of the relevant parties on the Korean Peninsula but in fact also meets the universal expectation of the international community. So when the peaceful and political settlement of the peninsula issue is facing major opportunities, all the relevant parties, especially the U.S. and the DPRK, should work with each other and show their goodwill and sincerity to each other to jointly create good conditions and atmosphere for leaders' meeting and make positive efforts toward the realization of lasting peace and stability on the peninsula."

Storyline

China on Wednesday said that the United States and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) should work together to realize the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.

Lu Kang, spokesman of the Foreign Ministry, made the remarks when commenting on the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA)'s threat early Wednesday that the DPRK would withdraw from a scheduled meeting with the U.S. over an ongoing U.S.-South Korea joint military exercise.

The easing of the Peninsula tension is hard-won and needs to be cherished by all parties, Lu said, adding that the easing of the tension is not only in the interests of the relevant parties of the Korean Peninsula but in fact also meets the universal expectation of the international community.
"So when the peaceful and political settlement of the peninsula issue is facing major opportunities, all the relevant parties, especially the U.S. and the DPRK should work with each other and show their goodwill and sincerity to each other to jointly create good conditions and atmosphere for leaders' meeting and make positive efforts toward the realization of lasting peace and stability on the peninsula," said Lu.
