Workers on Sunday almost completed clearing the wreckage of the ill-fated Cubana de Aviacion, while investigations continue to identify the actual cause of its crash.
An aging Boeing 737-200 of Mexican company Global Air rented to Cubana, crashed on Friday shortly after taking off from the capital's Jose Marti International Airport, leaving 110 dead and three critically injured.
According to local eye-witnesses and preliminary on site investigation, the right-hand engine of the plane had a burst fault shortly after the plane took off. While trying not to hit the houses below and even a school during its descent, the airplane eventually crashed on a farmland.
As the clearance work nears its end, part of the airplane’s engine has been recovered along with other things, including aircraft seats and passengers’ luggage.
Two investigators from Mexico’s Civil Aviation authority have arrived for further investigations while the Boeing company has said they will send technicians to fully investigate the plane crash.
