"On the path of finishing building a moderately prosperous society, China has set universal health coverage as the goal, and put forward the 'Healthy China 2030' agenda, which promises that by 2030, the country will raise the average life expectancy to 79, reduce infant mortality to 5 per 1,000 live births, under-five deaths to 6.0 per 1,000 live births, and maternal mortality rate to 12 per 100,000 live births. The agenda also pledges to basically achieve health care equality, and make the country's core health indicators emulate that of high-income countries by the time."

"This year marks the 55th anniversary since China has sent medical teams to foreign countries. Over the past half a century and more, China has dispatched 250,000 person times of health care professionals to 69 countries and regions, and treated 280 million patient times. Just when I'm delivering this speech, more than 1,000 Chinese medical workers are providing service to people in 53 countries and regions."

China is willing to cooperate with other countries to reduce "health injustice" and provide better health services for everyone, a senior Chinese health official told the 71st World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva on Monday.
Ma Xiaowei, minister of China's National Health Commission, said that China gives top priority to provide universal health coverage, set up a high quality and efficient medical and health service system, make health service more affordable.
He added that deepening health care reform has become a strong driving force to improve China's health service and the country has blazed, step by step a health care development path with Chinese characteristics.

China is actively participating in global health governance and promoting the building of a shared community with shared future, as well as helping developing countries to achieve their universal health care goals, added the official.

As the highest decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO), the annual assembly in May sets out the organization's policy and approve its budget.
This year's conference, scheduled between May 21 and 26, has attracted nearly 4,000 delegates from WHO's 194 members and partner organizations.
