Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the G20 foreign ministers' meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Monday, advocating multilateralism and calling for more support for developing countries.

Wang said that the establishment and development of the Group of Twenty (G20) is a new embodiment of multilateralism and marks a major progress in global governance.

Discussions on multilateralism and global governance is significant for the 10th anniversary of the G20 Summit, he said.

He pointed out that history has shown that it is in line with the trend of the times and the common interests of all countries to stick to multilateralism, improve global governance and forge a community of common interests.

Wang called on the world to build a new type of international relations to achieve win-win results through cooperation, resolve problems through negotiations on an equal footing in accordance with international laws and regulations, create a community with a shared future for mankind based on multilateralism, and improve the reform-oriented global governance system.

Wang pointed out that G20 shoulder the responsibility of creating more opportunities and support for developing countries by boosting world economic growth and strengthening international cooperation on development.

Wang said development should be prioritized in the global macroeconomic policy coordination to address the concerns of developing countries. The United Nations development agenda should be fully implemented to provide new drivers to developing countries in eliminating poverty and realizing growth.

Wang said China has lifted 700 million people out of poverty since its reform and opening-up was launched 40 years ago. China will continue its reform and open further to the world, and always commit itself to world peace, contributing to global development and safeguarding the international order.

The G20 foreign ministers' meeting is a lead-up to the G20 Leaders' Summit scheduled to be held in Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina in November.
