Storyline

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Monday stressed higher level of opening-up to drive forward reform, stimulate market vitality and optimize the development environment.

Li made the remarks during his inspection to the General Administration of Customs (GAC) and the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) on Monday.

Visiting the GAC, Li was briefed about the administration’s progress in facilitating and integrating customs clearance services. In a video conference with customs officers in different regions, Li urged the officers to focus on the needs of enterprises, upgrade the level of their services through information technologies, and further cut the time and cost for customs clearance.

The officers were also required to fulfill their duty of “safeguarding the nation’s gates” with loyalty, unswervingly fight against smuggling and prevent wastes from foreign countries, unsafe and inferior products, in particular unqualified frozen meat products from entering China.

In his inspection to the MOC, Li listened to a report about the implementation of the policies on foreign investments, the existing issues on drawing in foreign investments and the ministry’s next move.

Citing that China’s doors to the outside world will open wider, Li urged the ministry to proactively improve the investment climate for foreign investors and to promote the positive aspects learned from the opening up of the free trade pilot zones nationwide, so as to maintain China’s role as a fertile ground for foreign investment in the world.

Li also listened to the work reports presented by the GAC and MOC at a symposium.

He said at the symposium that over the past 40 years, the opening-up strongly drove forward reform and pressed forward development. In the new era, further opening up is a necessary strategic choice for China, and higher level opening-up will drive forward the reform, stimulate market vitality, optimize the development environment and push ahead with high-quality development, said Li.
