Workers started to install the containment dome for a nuclear power unit that adopts China's self-developed Hualong One technology on Wednesday in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
The containment dome was to be installed on the nuclear island of the No. 3 nuclear power unit of the Fangchenggang nuclear power station in Fangchenggang City.
The installation of the dome, which weighs 260.45 tons and measures 45 meters in diameter, requires high precision with errors of alignment controlled within 2 millimeters.
The dome installation will be followed by the installation of the equipment of the nuclear unit of China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN).
The Hualong One technology is a pressurized water reactor design that is used in homegrown third-generation reactors. It is China's only domestically-developed third-generation nuclear technology that has so far gone international.
The phase II of the Fangchenggang nuclear power station consists of the No. 3 and No. 4 nuclear power units and the construction began in December 2015.
The phase II project will be the reference plant for Bradwell B, a British nuclear power project invested by CGN in collaboration with French energy company EDF that will also use the Hualong One design.
