China will continue to encourage the United States and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to build mutual trust and look forward to the meeting between leaders of the two countries, said Lu Kang, spokesman of Chinese Foreign Ministry, on Wednesday.
Lu made the remarks at a regular news briefing in Beijing when responding to questions on China's role in recent development on the Korean Peninsula.
He refuted accusations that China has influenced Pyongyang to take a harder position toward Washington, hoping that the two sides to seize the "historic opportunity" and settle concerns "in a balanced way."

The DPRK warned last week that Pyongyang would have to reconsider whether to attend the scheduled Singapore meeting if the United States "only wants to press the DPRK to abandon its nuclear arsenal."
After that, U.S. President Donald Trump said at the meeting with ROK President Moon Jae-in on Tuesday that his scheduled meeting with top DPRK leader Kim Jong Un "may not work out for June 12," raising a possibility for the delayed first-ever summit between the DPRK and the United States.
