Participants at the 22nd St. Petersburg Int'l Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2018 said the cooperation between China and Russia is conducive to building an open world economy.
China-Russia trade cooperation drew huge attention during the three-day forum.
With the theme of 'Creating an Economy of Trust', the forum set up several sub-forums, including 'A new platform for China-Russia cooperation: development prospects' and 'New stage of development to promote Shanghai Cooperation Organization's commercial activities'.
Some guests said that with the continuous deepening of the two countries' docking cooperation in the construction of Silk Road Economic Belt and Eurasian Economic Union, China-Russia economic and trade cooperation will also be upgraded to a new stage.
"We signed a series of cooperation agreements here yesterday [May 25]. The volume of trade between China and Russia increased by nearly 30 percent in the first quarter of 2018, and at this rate, trade between the two countries is expected to increase to 100 billion U.S. dollars in 2018," said Zhou Liqun, president of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Russia.
Moreover, the cooperation between China and Russia in maintaining the multilateral trading system and building a new international trade order is also progressing.
Alexander Braverman, head of the Federal Corporation for the Development of Small and Medium Business in Russia, said that the Russian government has been encouraging Chinese businessmen to invest in Russian small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which will further develop and consolidate the economic ties between the SMEs of the two countries.

In addition, Alexander Misharin, the first vice-president of Russian Railways, stated that due to China's Belt and Road Initiative, the volume of container transport between the two countries increased significantly in 2017 and the first few months of 2018, and shipments from China to Europe via Russia also grew from previous years.
The forum, which kicked off Thursday and concluded Saturday, attracted nearly 10,000 participants from Russia and other countries around the world, including heads of state, government and corporate leaders, as well as representatives from the research and media communities and civil society institutions.
