Canada's southern Ontario region has been sweltering in an unusual, intense heat wave over the past few days.
Environment Canada said it had forecast a daytime high of 32 degrees Celsius for the weekend, however, coupled with high humidity, temperatures felt like as high as 40 degrees Celsius for the human body.
In the largest city Toronto, people congregated around fountains to bask in the meager sprays, or simply to dive in.
At a local park, a line also formed near an ice cream truck.
The city has set up seven summer shelters to provide people with free air conditioning and cold drinks.
Environment Canada said the searing heat is forecast to last through the week with cooler air moving in on June 25.
Toronto experienced a similar heat wave last September.
