Storyline

Fans of Tunisia's national football team said on Saturday they were still proud of their heroes despite them suffering a second loss at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, leaving them on the brink of elimination.
The Eagles of Carthage lost 2-5 to Belgium on Saturday in their Group F encounter at the Otkrytie Arena in Moscow. Any chance of them remaining in contention to advance from the group will fall squarely on the outcome of the match between England and Panama on Sunday.

Tunisian football analysts said the team was focused during the game but, Belgium was more determined to qualify for the knockout stage.

"Tunisia lost the game, but the Eagles scored two goals. They were brave on the pitch. The team defended their camp and attacked until the end," said Issam Zhinaoui, a football analyst.

Zhinaoui's opinion was echoed by his colleagues.

"It was very difficult to stop Belgium's wave of attacks. We missed some occasions, but the Belgians could have scored more during the match," said Tarak Sayhi, a sports journalist.

Thousands of fans gathered to watch the match live on an outdoor giant screen in the capital, Tunis. At least 15,000 Tunisian football fans have traveled to Russia to support the national team, according to the country's ambassador in Moscow.

Both Tunisian fans at home and in Moscow are proud of the team's extraordinary performance despite the un-encouraging result.

"It's an honorable defeat. The Belgians were stronger physically and technically," said one fan.

"We're disappointed, but we'll support Tunisia until the end. There's still one game left next week," said another fan.

Tunisia will face Panama on Thursday in its last group match. The morale of the players and the staff should remain high, even after the two defeats.

"Qualifying to the second round is impossible because Belgium and England are leading the group, but at least, we can play to win. We have a good team," said Zied Selmi, another sports journalist.

Tunisia beat Mexico 3-1 at the 1978 World Cup in Argentina. It was the first victory for the North African team at the tournament. Tunisians hope to once again defeat a Central American rival, but this time on Russian soil.
