Storyline

China's second C919 large passenger plane completed its first long-distance flight after landing in eastern Shandong Province Thursday afternoon, marking a new stage of intensive flight tests for the C919 project.

The trunk jetliner self-developed by China flew from Shanghai Pudong International Airport for one hour and 46 minutes to land at the Dongying flight test base of the state-owned Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) in Shandong.

After conducting its maiden flight at Shanghai Pudong International Airport in December last year, the second C919 has completed multiple tests and modifications for its flight test missions.

China's first C919 plane is undergoing flight tests and preparation in Xi'an City in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, and has completed 18 flights in over 50 hours.

To date, the C919 project is on schedule, with flight tests, static tests and ground tests for follow-up planes in order, said COMAC.

The third C919 plane is in its final assembly phase, with its cables and airborne systems currently being installed.

The COMAC has received 815 orders for the C919 from 28 customers worldwide.

The Dongying flight test base is China's first of its kind for civil aircraft, and will test all large passenger planes to be produced by China in the near future.

The test base was built on the original Shengli Airport and was launched in 2016.

The original runway was extended from 2,800 to 3,600 meters, while supporting facilities including communication and navigation systems have been added to the test base, to make it more capable of implementing its missions for China's civil aircraft industry.
