Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday met World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim in Beijing with both sides vowing to enhance cooperation under the Belt and Road framework in the future.
China has long enjoyed good cooperation with the World Bank, Xi said. China also appreciates the World Bank for its active support for the Belt and Road Initiative and vigorously promoting the capital increase as well as equity reform so as to enhance the representation and voice of emerging markets and developing countries including China.
China is willing to deepen the global development partnership with the World Bank, promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, jointly promote the global poverty reduction and sustainable development with other countries, and maintain an open world economy so as to build a community of shared future of mankind, Xi said.
Xi also said that as a responsible big power, builder and contributor of the current international system, China will firmly support the improvement of the multilateral trading system, promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, and work with all parties to made the pie of our cooperation bigger for mutual benefits.
The Belt and Road Initiative China proposed is to promote international cooperation and development through consultation and collaboration on the basis of international rules, Xi said, adding that China is willing to strengthen cooperation with the World Bank under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.
Kim appreciated China's long-standing strong support to the World Bank and said that the World Bank appreciates China's support for multilateralism and economic globalization, as well as the bank's capital increase and equity reform. The World Bank is ready to further deepen cooperation with China under the Belt and Road framework to jointly push for new achievements in global poverty reduction and global development.
